The future of inclusive design: the success of initiatives aiming to reduce inequality in spatial planning and the built environment

The aim of the research was to explore the success of equality-related initiatives in the field of spatial planning and the built environment. CCHPR worked with Women’s Design Groups, Disability Access Groups and Inclusive Design Groups.

In particular, it examined how a recent shift to a single equalities focus in legislation was stimulating the development of Inclusive Design Groups and how it was impacting on existing Women’s Design Groups and Disability Access Groups. The aim was to share lessons learnt, best practice and to consider ways forward by facilitating discussion between the different initiatives in light of the research findings.
