Cambridge Centre for Housing & Planning Research

Customer-centric approaches to designing and developing products play an integral role in many industries but, despite the need to address the housing shortage through the rapid building of high quality, greener homes, the UK construction industry has yet to embrace post-occupancy evaluation (POE) and develop it as a tool for improving construction in a way that incorporates feedback from end users - the residents of the new build homes.

Collaborating with housebuilders and residents from the social housing sector, our impact project will explore mechanisms for improving the feedback loop from residents to the design and development of MMC-build homes. Our project partner, Building Better, will help us to establish a pilot working group to help define the best ways to measure customer experience and to develop a proposed framework for the development of a roadmap that will change the culture of POE in MMC-based housebuilding in practice.
