Using Ghana as its case study, the paper addresses the influence of land administration challenges over the reasons for moving, as cited by households. The findings used highlight the extent to which gated communities have become avenues through which the affluent and rising middle classes can avoid problems associated with land administration, and sets them in a context of the seemingly intractable urban problems faced by the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area.
