The key research aims of the project were to:

  1. Understand current user experience of existing services;
  2. Explore perceptions of what further services would be useful, or could be accessed to support different parts of the D/deaf community, and to understand barriers to access.

It was also deemed important to demonstrate the differences between the four main groups or types of deaf people and the barriers that each faces in terms of exclusion from services, both mainstream, such as health and social services, and specialist services for deafness. Gaining a preliminary understanding of exclusion and inequalities would help with future fundraising.
