Cambridge Centre for Housing & Planning Research

The Welsh Assembly Government commissioned this ‘top down’ assessment of the future demand and need for additional housing together with current unmet need for affordable housing.

This assessment will underpin more detailed work to help local authorities and registered social landlords to assess conditions within their local housing markets, gauge the local need for affordable housing and respond effectively to these needs. The assessment will also help to inform national policy decisions on the resources needed for state subsidised housing and its allocation across Wales. The estimates will be derived from the Welsh Assembly Government’s 2006-based projection of households in Wales from 2006 to 2031 together with data on housing tenure by type o f household and age come from the survey of households in Wales (Living in Wales).
