This project analysed and commented on official estimates (projections) of the number of households in future years, the types of household, and the ages of household heads.
The sources of the projected future increase in the number of households –ageing of the population and inward migration are analysed, and sources of uncertainty noted. A new and much higher projection of the population of England was published by the Office for National Statistics in October 2007. What it implies for the future increase in numbers of households will be studied, along with sources of uncertainty.
