The paper, co-authored with Lewis Abedi Asante and published in September 2020, examines the ongoing transformation in Ghana's traditional compound houses. Physical transformation, where modification of compound houses into apartments, is seen to lead to stratospheric increases in rent and the apparent gentrification of what is ostensibly housing for those on low incomes. The paper concludes by reflecting on the potential consequences of this transformation and makes a case for urgent policy intervention in the ongoing transformation of compound houses.
