Dr Kwadwo Oti-Sarpong's report highlighted the key problems faced by the construction industry and discussed government attempts to tackle them to date. Modern methods of construction are being championed as a 'cure all' for the industry, indeed the current government has set ambitious industrial targets and established a series of strategic partnerships to help mitigate the housing crisis, but the uptake of offsite manufacture (OSM) still remains low.

Having set the scene, the report charts the path for critical research, complementary to the existing techno-centric understanding of the barriers to uptake, that is aimed specifically at developing a greater understanding of the socio-economic inhibitors to widespread uptake of OSM.
