Cambridge Centre for Housing & Planning Research

The objective of this project was to use new data to revise and update the modelling of need and demand undertaken by CCHPR for the Welsh Government in 2010. The key research question was 'What is the housing ‘need’ in Wales and how is it expected to evolve in the coming years?'

The projections of housing need and demand previously carried out in 2010 helped to shape housing policy in Wales, but it was widely recognised that these had become out of date. The Minister was keen to understand the pattern of need across Wales and at a local level and revisiting and updating the work done in 2010 would help with this. The work comprised top down assessments of future housing requirements in Wales based on official household projections and their breakdown into need and demand using survey data.
