Outcomes of Urban Requalification under Neoliberalism

Sónia Alves, CCHPR, and Rosa Branco, CICS, gave a presentation to the Urban Sociology Research Network in Madrid.

This presentation was delivered at the III Midterm Conference of the European Sociological Association - Urban Sociology Research Network in Madrid, 27-29 June 2018. The theme of the conference was 'inequality and uncertainty: current challenges for cities'.

The presentation looked at the Urban Requalification Societies (SRU) model of urban renewal, launched by the Portuguese government in 2004. With case studies from Lisbon and Porto, Sónia Alves and Rosa Branco discussed the findings from their critical analysis of political discourses on this topic.
